SH: Bell Tower by meridianskies SH: Bell Tower by meridianskies
Card games have been used as forms of entertainment for even longer than Sybal Heim's known. With an immortal life to live, the citizens find ways to keep themselves occupied in the same ways as the old world. Hence, with the popularity of card games in ancient western Asia, Africa, China, and western Europe, it was only a matter of time before Sybal Heim found it's own spin on this specific form of gambling and entertainment.

The "Bell Tower" card deck is a deck of playing cards specifically invented within the city of Sybal Heim.

The date of origin is believed to be somewhere between the 10th and 11th century, following the introduction of Chinese dominoes and playing cards from Mamluk Egypt. Since their creation, the cards have seen a reinvention every century or so, particularly after the changing of a Minister in any district. All of the images and symbolism used in the deck pay tribute to city life, from the design of the back of cards to the constant allusion to the bells of Kardia.

These card decks are suited for a variety of games both complicated and simple, familiar or innovative. Cards can be bought in mass market copies or individually commissioned by city artists, depending on the person's taste.

Read here for information on the deck's contents, and common games to go along with it!

This is awesome! And the Minister of each district serves as figure for the King card? I can't wait to see the poses of the others! :3c
(there must be one or two card sets in the city that draw these ministers in rather awkward poses... Like, messy hair, slouching shoulder, the very image of sleep deprivation- or just freezing them in a huge sneeze!)

I have NO DOUBT that there is unflattering art of the ministers in a deck somewhere.

But no, the cards actually have a unique set up of their own. The Ministers are typically trump cards, but there is no Jack/King/Queen.

I would say don't hold your breath, but I'm still in the process of figuring out a way to make it playable for everyone. If circumstances and money allow, I'll try to print them- otherwise, I may just make a PDF version of the cards available without the artwork on the back
